Updated Rooms

A complete remodel of a house usually starts with paint colors and we work from there. However if you have your paint colors already, start with the furniture placement and fabric colors. Since there are literally an unlimited number of fabrics for upholstered furniture decide if you want a pattern, texture, or stay with a solid color.

Do you have a color story you especially like? Are there colors you especially don’t like? Are you looking for a moody darker or brighter and lighter look? Pick your favorite color and work from there. I prefer a maximum of three colors in a room so it doesn’t start to get too busy.

This basement remodel includes paint colors changing from green on green to black and white. This is such an easy color story to work with because you can accent with any color you like. Our client likes to keep a clean look so we continue with white on the sofa fabric with accents in the pillows. The round ottoman is the perfect shape when using a sectional. It is great to introduce curves into a room with all the straight lines of furniture and in here it is especially good with the angle of the fireplace. What a difference lighter, brighter colors make to a room!

Below is the before picture of a living room in the same house. It feels dark and definitely needs an update. The change to white walls certainly brightens the room.

The extra long wall allows the placement of the antique cabinet and still has room for a great seating group. The gold sofa with blue pillows picks up the blue from the chairs.

My personal favorite accessory is the 60 inch round mirror on the very high and long wall. It is centered over the sofa with floor lamps on each end to frame the mirror. Too often the mirrors or artwork are too small and too high. Often pieces are hung on the wall in no relationship to anything around them.

Isn’t it amazing that the blue and gold are used in the same room but in different ways and the room takes on a completely new look?

The family room has black paint on the walls and looks great with the white walls visible around it. The sofa picks up white and grey tones with accent tables and the large ottoman in white. The sofa is flanked by octagon tables adding a new shape to the room which also adds interest. Matching table lamps balance the space. It is a great room with a half wall behind the sofa allowing a view of over the staircase.
